TYPES OF PRAYERS IN THE BIBLE
“PRAYING (AT ALL TIMES) WITH ALL (KINDS OF) PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION IN THE SPIRIT”  (EPHESIANS 6:18)…

ARE THERE ANY EXAMPLES OF MISGUIDED PRAYERS OR PRAYERS THAT GOD WOULD NOT ANSWER? JOHN 14:14 (ESV), “IF YOU ASK ME ANYTHING IN MY NAME, I WILL DO IT.”
I JN 5:14-16; JAMES 4:3-4; 5:16; MATT 6:25; 33-34 (MESSAGE);
Luke 18:9-14

CAN WE PRAY ABOUT?
Win a million dollars in the lottery
Make an “A” in an exam
Get a job
A better complexion
Winning a game
Losing weight
Praying for miracle money when opportunities are there to work and make money
Have you ever prayed a misguided prayer? Do you mind sharing and what was the outcome?

Prov 15:29; 28:9
Isaiah 1:15
Ps 66:18
1 Peter 3:7

YOU CAN ALWAYS “PRAY WITHOUT CEASING,”  BUT IN ORDER TO BUILD A STRONG DAY-TO-DAY PRAYER LIFE, YOU NEED A TEMPLATE.
THAT IS WHAT THE LORD’S PRAYER IS…

YOU CAN PRAY ANY WAY YOU WANT, BUT PREVAILING PRAYER NEEDS A TEMPLATE OR PATTERN. MATT 11:28-29

THE LORD’S PRAYER (MATTHEW 6:9-15; LUKE 11:1-4)
Jesus taught the disciples what He did in his prayer life.
There are 6 types of prayers in the Lord’s prayer alone.
Adoration (worship) – “Our father in heaven … hallowed be your name” Ps 103:1-5
Consecration or relinquishment – “your kingdom come … your will be done”
Supplication – intercession – “give us this day our daily bread”
Confession of sins – “forgive us our sins … as we forgive others”
Protection – Overcoming evil powers and temptation – “ lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”
Casting our cares on the Lord – “for yours is the kingdom, power and glory”

PARTS OF THE LORD’S PRAYER (MATTHEW 6:9-15)
This short prayer perfectly summarizes what Christians believe and how Christians should live.
The prayer opens simply with an address to Our Father, who art in Heaven. This address reaffirms our core belief as Christians that God is our heavenly Father, both with us in spirit and above us in the perfect realm of Heaven. God wants us to call him “Father” (a revealed name of God Isaiah 64:8; 63:16)…
Whenever you come to God in prayer, remember you are coming to your father who wants to meet your needs… Rom 8:15; Matt 6:25-34

HALLOWED BE THY NAME…
Hallowed means holy or sanctified. God’s name is holy, as God is the epitome of sanctity. Leviticus 10:3; Ps 22:3 – remember God’s is holy whenever you come. Don’t be careless.
Psalms 100:4, says… “enter His gates with Thanksgiving and His Courts with Praise”. Ps 103:1-5 Every prayer should start with thanksgiving and praise. Jesus demonstrated that at the tomb of Lazarus, John 11:41-43.
For our prayers to be effective, we should learn to enter the presence of God with a respectful and a grateful heart, irrespective of what we are going through in life, we should learn to appreciate God for who He is to us and for what he has done for us.

THY KINGDOM COME…
We pray for the Kingdom of God to take form in the here and now so that we can live in a world characterized God’s authority. Dan 2:44; 7:13-14, 27; Rev 11:15 (see context);
As Christians we must learn to pray for the kingdom of God. Praying for the advancement of the kingdom should be of paramount importance to us. Praying for the kingdom includes prayers for the salvation of souls, prayers for Christians going through challenges, prayers for the gospel of Jesus Christ to take over the world, prayer for the protection and preservation of Christians all over the world, this and many more are kingdom focused prayers. Matt 9:37-38 harvest; Col 4:2-4,12; 2 Thess. 3:1; Eph 1:17

THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN..
Praying this petition is an act of selfless surrender to the will of God. In particular, we humbly request here for God to give us the strength to follow His will, not ours, in living a life that glorifies Him and shows compassion and justice to others. When we pray, “Thy will be done,” we acknowledge God’s right to rule. Asking that God’s will be done is a demonstration of our trust that He knows what is best. It is a statement of submission to God’s ways and His plans. We ask for our will to be conformed to His.
Question: What is God’s will in heaven that needs to be accomplished here on earth? John 6:40; I Tim 2:1-4

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD
After you have given God thanks, and prayed for the kingdom, now you can ask for your personal needs, God is committed to providing for His children daily.
This is where you start to mention the purpose of your prayers to the lord, your personal supplications to Him. Its important to note that all your prayer requests before God must be backed up by His word. The word of God is our strong reason in prayers. When we remind Him of what His word says in our prayers, He rises up and honors His word in our lives.
Matt 4:4; Ps 34:10; Prov 30:8; 1 Tim 6:8; Ex 16:16-35 (Manna)

AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US…
This section of the Lord’s Prayer may be the toughest to pray and follow.
For times when forgiving someone proves especially difficult, the Bible teaches that a good time to extend forgiveness is during prayer when our minds and hearts are united with God (Mark 11:25-26).
By choosing to replace resentment with forgiveness, we reflect God’s love and mercy in our actions. This, in turn, enables us to walk more confidently toward God, who wants our every step to be toward Him.
Matt 18:21-35; Luke 17:3-5; Col 3:13

AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION…
In this supplication, we acknowledge that our free will brings with it human weaknesses. To overcome those weaknesses, we pray here for God to extend His guiding hand over us and grant us the discernment necessary to steer clear of temptation and sin. God doesn’t lead us to sin; we do that all on our own because of the free will our Creator gave us. But our God is faithful and promises to provide a way out of any temptation that we may face (1 Cor 10:13).
Matt 26:41; Deut. 8:2, 16; 1 Pet 5:8; Luke 22:31-32; 21:36

BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL…
This petition covers the many times that we do fall prey to temptation and sin. During these times of entanglement, if we continually seek the Lord, He will answer us and deliver us from all of our fears (Psalm 34:4).
Remember Jabez 1 Chron 4:10; Jeremiah 15:21; John 17:15; Ps 121:7-8
Remember Paul 2 Tim 4:17-18;

FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOREVER… AMEN.
Round up your prayers with thanksgiving again, begin to thank Him for answering your prayers, give Him praise and believe that all you have asked He has answered. Then finally end your prayers in the name of Jesus Christ. The name of Jesus Christ is the seal that makes your prayers answerable.
1 Chron 29:11
